As I saw my friend off to England yesterday, it reminded me that I don't want to fall behind on this blogging thing. I don't want to look at it and think I have so much to catch up on, that I won't actually update it anymore.
So anyway, why did saying good bye to my England bound friend, Tyrell, remind me of the blog? Well because last week Dusty and I had her over to help us clean house. She had an amazing opportunity to fly to England courtesy of her pen-pal that lives there. She didn't have much spending money and I wanted her to stop stressing about it. I talked to Dusty and asked him if he thought having her over to help deep clean the house would be ok for her to get some extra scratch. He was more than obliged to help her out. So I IM'd her and she was all for the idea. (sweet!!)
We started last Tuesday. I figured it would just be easiest to start at the back of the house and work our way up. The very first night she was here for 4.5 hours and we got through the master bathroom and master bedroom. Now, you're probably thinking..OMG! That house must have been filthy to spend all that time...Nope, not so much. She went over EVERYTHING! Not one piece of that bathroom or bedroom wasn't wiped, scrubbed or vacuumed. We took things out of the cupboards and threw out a TON of stuff. Dusty went through his clothes (I finally unpacked from a trip to NY last month) and bags and bags of stuff went to the curb.
The next day we decided to have a playdate with the kids and she and I would continue cleaning. She spent 7.5 hrs on the kitchen, computer room, guest bathroom, Josh's room and the hallway. Again, piles of garbage went out. Then the following day was the livingroom. We spent a few hours on that and rearranged everything, Dusty put together a media shelf to help organize his gaming/tv stuff. It looks awesome! We were so impressed with her work ethic and commitment to this house that we ended up giving her a 50% increase in pay from what we had originally agreed on.
It feels so good to have everything organized. Everything from cupboards, to clothes to laundry all done- all clean- all just perfect. We've already been able to "test" the new surroundings out. Dusty's dad and brother came over the other day. They had no prior knowledge of what we had done. I wasn't here to witness their reaction but apparently it was great. Denny (dusty's dad) thinks I'm a miracle worker and he is so happy to see Dusty so happy with me. He says he can definitely tell a difference having a woman's touch here at the house.
Now, everything is fine and dandy with the house. I'm so glad it's done and over with and we can just maintain it from this point out. Although Dusty can probably figure it out (or has) OR maybe just learning of this as he reads this blog- there was another motivation to this "clean sweep" for me. Now that everything is organized, there is more room for Josh and my stuff once Dusty ever gets around to asking us to officially move in ;)
